My Motivation
The 4% rule is a popular approach to determining if you can live off of your traditional assets (stocks + bonds portfolio). My current monthly spending totals to ~$2,550. So ~$30,600 yearly.
According to the 4% rule, I would need $765,000 invested to maintain my current standard of living (which is very frugal!). Lets say I cut down and save ~$700 per week. Assuming a conservative 8% growth per year, it will still take 12.3 years to sustain this frugal lifestyle without a salary job.
I will continue to take a very hands-off approach with investing. Buying into the S&P 500, buying dividend stocks, and taking advantage of my employers Stock Program and 401K match. But 12.3 years is too long.
This page is intended to spell out my investment philosophies and develop ideas for alternate income streams.
